Degree - Thailand

The Thai Ministry of Education stipulates that a teacher must possess a bachelor’s degree in order to qualify to teach in that country. Thai employers prefer that a qualified teacher should have a bachelor’s degree, a TEFL certificate or similar, and some relevant experience.

However, even if you meet only one of these criteria you won’t be turned away. A 4 year bachelor degree is equivalent to a 3 year diploma in certain countries that ensures work permit for Thailand leading to legal employment. But since there is a dearth of good ESL teachers, some schools are even forced to hire a non-degree candidate as long a he is a white. Thus a TEFL certificate does ensure better employability and better prospects in Thailand.
