FAQ - Thailand

FAQS
Is Thailand a safe place to travel alone to?
One of the best/worst things (depending on your viewpoint) is how easy it is to meet other travelers while exploring Thailand. If you're traveling by yourself, chances are you'll meet even more people and, when you come to leave the country you'll realize you've developed a collection of friends from all over the globe (Thailand included) - that's one of the great things about traveling.

As with just about anywhere in the world, you are safer traveling with others, but as long as you use your common sense, traveling alone is generally perfectly safe -- tens of thousands of people do it every year.

Can I drink the tap water?
Everyone says you can, but residents still tend to avoid drinking it where possible. As long as you're not drinking gallons of it, you should live to tell the story.

Are credit cards accepted?
Yes, but not everywhere. Cheap to medium-priced guesthouses and most cheap restaurants will not accept credit cards. Pretty much everywhere else does.

Should I tip?
The answer is not easy. First you can tip on tourist places like hotels, restaurants, bars etc. Secondly you can tip taxi drivers only if he has given an outstanding service

What is the bare minimum I could survive on?
You can survive on about 250 THB a day. The cost breakdown would be 100 THB on a very basic bungalow, and 40 THB a meal for three basic Thai meals and 30 THB for water and other tiny costs.
